FAQ

Why wear cycling shoes?
Traditionally, road racers wore shoes with rigid soles to maximize the transfer of power from the foot to the pedal. These days most cycling shoes are made to be compatible with clip-in pedals. Cycling shoes still have soles that are more rigid than normal shoe soles, though the degree of rigidity ranges from completely stiff to semi-rigid, to firm, depending on intended usage.

I just bought a pair of Exustar shoes; why are the cleats missing?
They are not missing. Like most shoe companies, we do not supply cleats with shoes. Cleats and hardware are supplied with new Exustar clipless pedals. They are also available separately as replacement parts. Cleats are shown on your shoe instructions only to illustrate how they should be assembled to the shoe sole.

Why am I having problems attaching SPD cleats to Exustar road shoes (models E-SR412, E-SR422W, E-SR432)?
Due to a special sole design, SPD cleat bolts are too short for these shoes. To remedy this, we supply longer (12.5mm) bolts with these shoes. Replace standard cleat bolts with the Exustar bolts supplied with your shoes, and attach as per instructions. This issue applies only to the models listed above.

How do you designate shoes 'Lightweight'?
This is our own company standard. Lightweight shoes are 450 g/pr or under. Weights are for pairs in grams (Men's size Euro 42).

Are Exustar shoes compatible with Speedplay Zero pedals?

Yes, our road shoes are compatible with Zero pedals. Speedplay supplies adaptor hardware with the pedals. According to their website, "The 1-F and 1-R Snap Shims are factory installed on the 3-hole plastic base plate of the cleat." See the Speedplay website for details and instructions.

How do I take care of my cycle shoes?

Extend the life of your Exustar shoes by taking a little time to clean and care for them:

• After cycling, remove insoles and shake or wipe any dirt or debris from the insoles and inside the shoes.

• Remove insoles, and air-dry shoes–away from sunlight–after each use.

• Remove grime from shoe upper with a damp cloth. Remove dry mud with a stiff plastic-bristled brush. Do not immerse shoes in water or machine-wash. Insoles may be washed separately.

• Remove any small stones or objects that may have lodged in the shoe sole, particularly around the cleat area, vents or spike holes.

• Do not leave sweaty/wet shoes enclosed in a bag for more than a few hours as this can create mold.

• Store shoes away from sunlight in a well-ventilated place.

• If storing for a lengthy period of time, dry shoes then loosely pack them with balls of paper to help maintain shape.

• If insoles are badly worn, Exustar supplies replacement insoles. There are also numerous third party options for insole replacement.

• Damaged or badly worn shoes or cleats should be replaced.
